MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF SPCAAM
Dear Respected Brothers & Sisters
The Covid-19 pandemic exposed the serious gaps in our inadequate social protection system, and we can see many workers vulnerable and unprotected now and will be even more in their retirement. Many have had their livelihoods seriously affected, while many others are battling with mental health issues.
The right to social security is one key human rights component. It is crucial for guaranteeing a life in dignity.
Social protection includes policies and programs designed to reduce vulnerability by promoting efficient labour markets, diminishing people's exposure to risks, and enhancing their capacity to protect themselves against hazards and interruption/loss of income.
The Social Protection Contributors' Advisory Association Malaysia or SPCAAM was formed to act as a facilitator in helping the Rakyat. This body will represent Malaysian workers, workers from other countries and consumers who contribute to social protection in Malaysia.
Social protection in Malaysia is incompetent to address the basic needs of the people. Many others are completely left out of the social protection system. They are without any form of support and are extremely vulnerable.
As such we can be proud that for the first time in the history of our country, we have an organization that will look into the interests of the people, who are contributors of social protection in statutory or non-statutory bodies.
Among the important OBJECTIVES of SPCAAM are:
The SPCAAM launched today, on May 1st, World Labour Day commences with the Communications, Socio-Economic and Industrial Relations Units.
Stronger social protection should be the way forward for our nation.
Together, we can bring about the change we dream of.
